BACKGROUND

COVERGIRL TrueYou Match lipstick was created to meet the needs of beauty enthusiasts who want a lipstick that feels authentic and enhances their natural look. Targeted toward confident makeup lovers between the ages of 24 and 40, this innovative lipstick aligns with COVERGIRL’s mission to celebrate individuality. TrueYou Match goes beyond standard color choices by adapting to the wearer’s natural lip color, subtly enhancing it with reflective pigments for a beautiful, natural look. With added hydration benefits, TrueYou Match keeps lips soft and healthy, bridging the gap between beauty and skincare.

THE PROJECT

The Details

The primary goal of this project was to create a magazine advertisement that would attract beauty-conscious consumers and prompt them to purchase the TrueYou Match lipstick. The ad needed to emphasize the lipstick’s standout feature: its ability to match and enhance the wearer’s natural lip color with added hydration benefits. The tone was set to be fun, stylish, and promotional, capturing the attention of readers and inviting them to explore their natural beauty with TrueYou Match.

This single-page, full-color ad was designed for fashion magazines, ensuring it would reach the target demographic of women who are already invested in beauty products. Working closely with a copywriter, we developed ad copy that spoke directly to the confidence and beauty goals of our audience, emphasizing that this lipstick could enhance their natural look in a subtle, sophisticated way.

The Ad

The advertisement’s design balanced eye-catching visuals with an elegant, approachable aesthetic. Front and center was a close-up shot of a model whose lips appeared soft, hydrated, and beautifully natural—highlighting the product’s transformative yet subtle effect. To ensure brand and product recognition, we incorporated an image of the TrueYou Match lipstick tube, with the sleek, iconic COVERGIRL branding prominently displayed. This made it easy for consumers to spot the product in stores, reinforcing brand familiarity and simplifying the purchase process.

The ad’s tagline captured the essence of TrueYou Match: enhancing natural beauty without overpowering it. Below the tagline, a short description outlined the product’s unique qualities—the reflective pigments that adapt to individual lip color and the added hydration for all-day softness.

The layout was clean and sophisticated, with plenty of white space to keep the focus on the model and the product itself, creating a sense of elegance that resonated with the target audience.

THE COMPLETION

The COVERGIRL TrueYou Match magazine ad successfully encapsulated the brand’s mission to help users feel confident in their natural beauty. Through a combination of compelling visuals and engaging copy, the ad struck a chord with readers, inviting them to experience a lipstick that adapts uniquely to them. By focusing on the product’s benefits—its natural color-matching capability and hydrating qualities—the ad made TrueYou Match an appealing choice for makeup lovers looking for something that complements and enhances their own beauty.

This case study showcases how an effective advertisement can not only attract attention but also inspire action. COVERGIRL’s message was communicated clearly, in a fun and stylish tone that aligned with the product’s identity, encouraging customers to seek out the TrueYou Match lipstick at their local drugstores. This project delivered a visually impactful and strategically crafted ad that met COVERGIRL’s objectives, positioning TrueYou Match as a must-have beauty staple for those who appreciate both style and substance in their makeup choices.
