Whether you’re just getting started or have been painting banners for a while, these are the supplies I personally love using. They’re simple, reliable, and make the process much easier.
It’s also proof that you don’t need expensive supplies to create beautiful banners.

I use contractor floor protective paper for my banners. It’s thick, durable, and I’ve never had issues with paint or markers bleeding through (*tip: always test first so you don’t accidentally stain the surface underneath your banner).
I’ve purchased it at hardware stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot, but for convenience, you can also find a popular option here
I spent a long time trying different tapes before finding one strong enough to hold my banners in place. Since the paper I use is heavier, a lot of common painter’s tapes wouldn’t hold it for very long.
This one works really well and keeps my banners secure while I’m working.
After trying many different brushes, my favorite brushes are actually Wet n’ Wild Makeup Brushes. When loaded with paint, they glide smoothly and evenly.
The Wet n’ Wild concealer brush makes painting letters so much easier
The Wet n’ Wild foundation brush is great for painting borders and larger areas.
I’ve been painting for years and Liquitex acrylic paint has always been one of my favorites. The consistency is great, the colors mix beautifully, and a little goes a long way.
If I want specific colors without mixing, I often reach for FolkArt craft paint. It’s affordable and comes in a wide range of colors.
I love using Posca paint pens for outlining, small lettering, and small details. They’re so easy to use, opaque, and easy to control.
They come in a variety of colors and tip sizes, so they’re also really fun for adding accents or illustrations to banners. If you’re new to paint pens, the medium tip set is a great place to start.
I use the Magcubic Mini Smart Project.
It’s simple to set up and the quality is good. It connects easily to my laptop or iPad with screen sharing, and works well with my tripod.
Just a quick note – the power cord is a bit short, so an extension cord may be helpful.
